Kia Rio is a subcompact car launched by the Korean car company Kia since 1999. With more than 20 years development, it has been updated four times. The 4th generation Kia Rio was released in 2016, and it is said that it will be discontinued in Europe, North America and Australia in 2023.

The 1st generation Kia Rio was released in South Korea in 1999, and there are two body styles including 4-door sedan and 5-door station wagon. With 6 years development, the 1st generation Kia Rio was discontinued in South Korea in 2005, however, in other countries such as Ecuador, it was not discontinued until 2013, and at this time the global version Kia Rio was updated to the 3rd generation.

In 2005, the 2nd generation Kia Rio with codenamed JB was first released in Europe and North America. In this generation product, the 5-door station wagon was replaced by 5-door hatchback. In 2007, the 2nd generation Kia Rio with Chinese name “Ruiou” was introduced to China for the first time and it was produced by the joint venture Dongfeng Yueda Kia. However, due to poor sales, the production and sales time of Kia Rio in China was very short, only about one year.

In the Diecast car model market, there is a 1/18 scale Kia RIO diecast model for collectors. Three different colors including blue, red and champagne are available to meet different buyers’ needs. Although the model is a great replica of the real car in terms of exterior and interior , as a model that has been produced for a long time, the painting condition, which is the biggest problem, is not as good as the new diecast model. As the only model of the 2nd generation Kia Rio, it is still worthy of being collected.

In 2011, the 3rd generation Kia Rio was released, and it was divided into global version and special version for the Russian and Chinese markets since this generation, They are different codenames and exteriors.

As a special version for China market, the 3rd generation Kia Rio was released in 2011, but its name was changed to Kia K2 including 4-door sedan and 5-door hatchback.

Along with the release of Kia K2 in China, its related diecast model was also released. Unlike the real car, only the 4-door sedan version 1/18 Kia K2 diecast model was released in three different colors including red, silver and blue. Like the 2nd generation Kia Rio model, in addition to the lifelike exterior and interior, there are a few working parts like the four car doors, hood and boot.

In 2016, the 4th generation Kia Rio, which was also divided into global version and special version for the Russian and Chinese markets, was released. In addition to the common 4-door sedan version, a new Crossover version was appeared in this generation.

In 2017, the new version named as KIA KX Cross was released in China and it was discontinued in 2019 without any related diecast models released.
